New runestone in Jelling

On the occasion of the Tour de France, a new rune stone was placed in Jelling. Explore the beautiful stone, which stands centrally in Jelling.

Gorm the Old did it, and Harald Bluetooth did it; Raised a stone in Jelling over their great achievements. Now the city of Jelling has also raised a stone. A stone celebrating the achievements of the Tour de France riders and celebrating the visit of the tour in 2022. A stone that in its design sends a salute back to the heritage of the Viking kings and at the same time is modern in its expression and shows that the Tour de France leaves its mark on the area.

The idea for the stone comes from the collaboration group Jelling Fester, which supports the city's Tour de France activities. In charge of the work with the rune stone is Karen Vognsen from Kongernes Jelling, and the performing artist is stone and sculptor Filip Møller. The stone, which was created with support from the Jelling Sparekasse Fund, is placed at an appropriate distance from the Viking runestones, more precisely on the corner between Fårupvej and Mølvangvej, where the Tour de France field passed by.
